OSI-CAN is dedicated to helping serving members and Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces, Allied Armed Forces, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Community First Responders, which include Municipal Police Services, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Protection Services, Emergency Communications Specialist (911 operators) All Public Safety Personnel, Hospital Trauma Personnel and Corrections Officers.
It is a joint project of the Canadian Mental Health Association (Saskatchewan Division) and the Royal Canadian Legion (Saskatchewan Command).
Operational Stress Injury (OSI) is often used as a non-medical term that is synonymous with Post Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI), but specific to traumatic events experienced in the line of duty, or while performing work-related tasks.
The term Operational Stress Injury is becoming more widely adopted, as it removes the stigma of having “disorder” applied to an individual.
OSI-CAN provides many programs for people in need such as peer support groups, equine psychotherapy, and service dog acquisition.
These support systems are available in Regina, North Battleford, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Estevan, Saskatoon, Tisdale and Prince Albert. Support groups in other centres will be starting soon. Please contact us if you have an immediate need in your area.
